Tsunami Update #1

July 29, 2025, 9:50 p.m. An earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, generated a tsunami that made landfall in the Hawaiian Islands this evening. We have thankfully not seen waves as big as the scientific models predicted. However, officials are urging residents and visitors to monitor local media for updates and continue to stay away from the coastline until the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issues an “all clear.” For those flying in or out of Hawai‘i this evening, please check with your airline for the status of your flight. Tsunami Update #2

An earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, generated a Tsunami that made landfall in the Hawaiian Islands this evening. At 10:38 p.m. this evening, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center downgraded the Tsunami Warning to a Tsunami Advisory, which means there is a potential for hazardous conditions such as strong currents and waves, which can be dangerous to those in or very near water. For safety, swimmers, boaters, and anyone near coastlines should remain cautious and vigilant for fluctuations in sea levels and activity throughout the day. Tsunami Watch Issued for the Hawaiian Islands

The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau and its Island Chapters, and Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association are monitoring the tsunami watch issued for the Hawaiian Islands, utilizing information from the State of Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and County emergency management agencies.
